The Shield Parade!

The kids at Havi's school have a Knight for the mascot... making them all little knights! Each year every child in the school, from Pre-K to 5th Grade makes a shield. Half represents the child and half represents the child's class.

Over the Labour Day weekend we worked on Havi's shield, leaving just a tiny space for the bumble bee they were going to decorate in class to represent the Bee Classroom.

We started with a blank slate and after lots if cutting, drawing and gluing we finished up with this masterpiece.

Charlie was a big part of the shield, per Havi's request. Others that Havi chose to have center stage were her cousins Rosie, Oliver, Bobby and Daniel, three friends from Pre-K Morgan, Carlo and Taylor, her family in Disney and Moo of course. Hello Kitty, Wild Kratts, a couple of princesses, Spiderman and some cupcakes and butterfly's made the grade too. :-)

I drew the letters for "Lady Havana" and she cut them out and stuck them over a Union Jack, a Cuban flag, a Spanish flag and the American flag.

The parade itself was very cute. The whole school (approx 856 kids) made a full, single line, circuit around the school showing off their works of art to all that had come to watch.

After the parade all the shields will be displayed on the hallway walls for the rest of the year. It will be interesting to see how Havi's shield changes each year.
