Havi passed Station 2 at swim class today and started doing a little bit of Station 3 tasks before the end of class. Next week she'll be Station 3 all the way!
To pass she had to float like a star fish with her face in the water for 5 seconds. She did it perfectly...
Yesterday Havi came home from school with a little bit of an attitude... we had a tiff about looking after her toys and this was the conversation that followed...
Havi:"You make me sad Mummy."
Me:"Well, you make me sad when you're a naughty girl."
Havi: (Shouting) "I'm NOT a naughty girl"
Me:"Havi, you were a naughty girl just then and now you have an attitude, I did not raise a child with an attitude."
Havi:"Well, I did not raise a Mummy who's mad at me and has an attitude."
Me:"OK" (Runs from the room before I start laughing)
Last weekend started off with our usual swim class then story and craft time at Barnes and Nobles. Ian has a swim class at another location at about the same time, and they surprised us with a trip to B&N too. Havi and Ian had fun making sock puppets together.
That afternoon we went to Lowes to pick up some flowers, seeds and potting soil, and managed to sneak in some yellow kids sized gardening gloves too. Havi had so much fun getting messy and planting the flowers and the seeds. Over the last week or so the seeds (in their Starbucks cups) have started sprouting and Havi is loving watching them pop up. Coincidentally it was 'flower' week at school and Havi planted a class plant there as well.
On Sunday we had a family day down at Zilker Park Kite Festival. We got there early before the crowds hit (first beautiful day of spring like weather + SXSW + Kite Festival = madness in downtown Austin). Havi loved pointing out all the characters on the kites, Disney Princesses, Octopus, Sharks, Spiderman etc etc, I think Tinkerbell was the winner. We then walked to Chuy's for lunch before stopping in at Brooke's on the way home to say hello.
Yesterday was another usual Saturday - swimming (if she can perfect the 'star fish' by herself next week, she's onto station 3), Barnes and Nobles and a quick trip to Target before nap time. In the afternoon after a haircut for Havi we had a surprise meet up with Selin, Kaan and Dilek for frozen yogurt yumminess....
Today we managed to give Havi cabin fever! I don't feel well so we ended up staying in PJ's all day and watching movies. Havi was a little delirious by the end of the day! Poor thing.
Deleting TV from our dinner time routine was the best thing we ever did. The conversations we have with Havi now are brilliant. Dinosaurs are pretty cool in Havi's world at the moment, a couple of nights ago we had a conversation over dinner that went something like this...
Havi: "You know dinosaurs and humans were together."
Me: "No, I don't think so baby."
Havi: "Yes, they were. The dinosaurs were on one earth and the humans were on another earth. One earth was in England and one was in Austin, Texas. Both earths were in the whole wide world."
Me: "Oh, really, are you sure?"
Havi: "Yeah, and mosquitoes too."
Me: "Oh, OK. And where are the dinosaurs now?"
Havi: "They died. They got buried and their bones are in the museum."
All thanks to the great PBS Kids show "Dinosaur Train"

I love that Havi thinks that Peter and I know everything. She'll even argue the point if we claim not to know the answer. When she wakes up in a morning, she's awake within seconds - not sure how she does it. But conversations like this are normal seconds after waking up...
Havi: "Why are the birds not singing outside my window?"
Me: (It was too early for me to come up with an answer that made sense)"I dunno"
Havi: "You know silly, you know everything, remember?"

Havi's swear word! Yes, she has one all to herself. It originated from the word 'stupid'. She said it a couple of times and I told her I didn't like that word. So next time she went to say it she caught herself and said 'stook' instead.
Now she says 'stook' (and so do Peter and I) with so much passion when she's annoyed at something. It's hilarious.
