Just sound it out Mum!

During bath time Havi likes to spell words with her foam letters and have me tell her what they say. Most of the time they don't say anything but I pronounce them in a silly way anyway.

Tonight she asked me what this said and the conversation that followed was eye opening:

Me: "I don't know what that spells Hav."

Havi: "Just sound it out Mum."

Me, a little shocked but playing dumb - "Sound it out? What does that mean?"

Havi: "You know, sound out the letters to see what it says."

Me: "Oh, right."

This led to me putting up some simple three letter words and Havi sounding out Hat, Mat, Dan, Can, Cat, Get, Run, Rat, Pet, Sat and Fun before getting stuck on Dog (that G sound is a tough one when it's at the end!)

Now, we've worked on her reading a little bit here and there at home... but this is reason number 7,356 why moving her to her new school was the best decision we've ever made :-)

Swimming update....

So I wish I could say that we've made it past Station 4 - but we haven't. Havi is having a really tough time with trusting that she will float on her back.

We had a private lesson with Sarah at Nitro and by the end of it she was swimming across the pool on her own, on her back. Two days later at her regular lesson she was back to panicking as soon as the instructor let go.

She has got better over the last couple of weeks and lots of trips to the Y to 'swim' have helped too. I think we had a breakthrough this past weekend - we will see if it translates into her swim lesson on Saturday morning.

It's just a few seconds, and it's in shallow water... but it's a whole lot better than the complete panic!

The frustrating thing is she's SUPER confident on her front and also under water...

It will come in time...

Havi-ism's

It's been a while since we've had some silly Havi-ism's....

Tonight in the bath she was laying on her back in the water. She has these foam letters and numbers that stick on the tiles. She put two zero's on her chest and said in the most British accent ever "Look at my boobies, they're so fancy!"

Her dolls house has a tiny TV in it... apparently everyone wanted to watch it a few nights ago! So many 'people' they had to move the TV outside.

When I asked her what love means: "It means they're in your family and you like them so much you can't take your mind off of them"

Havi directed me to school "SatNav" style last week. In a robotic voice "In point two miles turn left. In point four miles turn right. In point three miles stop at the red light. In point four miles turn into the school car park. In point one mile stop." Thing is she was right the whole way!

Her favourite silly thing to do is dance. I love that.

Playing nap time is still one of her favourite games and our favourite too. Who doesn't want to pretend to nap?

The Magical Adventures of Havi and Paige

Paige came to stay for two weeks and we did so much I can't possibly type it all out... pictures will tell the tale... enjoy!

The BFF status began with Paige reading her bed time book about 45 seconds after walking into the house.

Pancake!

We had a kitten. A little tiny orange kitten. For two days.

The Smith's were giving away some kittens and one came home with us, Pancake. But he wasn't meant for us, he was heading for Peter's work to be the new barn kitty. He did however need a place to stay while he got over surgery and got his shots so we tried.

Sadly Moo wanted to eat him and Charlie thought he was being replaced.

So Havi and Pancake got to be housemates for just two days.
