Ten years ago, March 9th 2000, Peter and I ran down to the Travis County Courthouse in downtown Austin and got married. We took along a couple of friends then had a lovely dinner afterwards. A year and a half later, after my green card was all fine and dandy... we had the big white wedding in England. We normally forget the first anniversary... but made a point to remember it for the 10th year!
I would post a picture of us that day... but I can't find one. So here's one of Havi - it's her blog anyway!
We went out as a family to Central Market... a huge celebration (!!!) and ate, played and went on a lovely walk. Havi made a point of telling us it was her anniversary too.
Here's to the next ten years - just please don't go by as quickly!
After swim class we made our way to Barnes and Noble for story and craft time, then as a treat went over to "Sprinkles" for frozen yogurt. You can choose one of six flavours then slap on as many toppings as you want. Needless to say, Havi was happy :-)
We then had a surprise visit from Ian. Kelly and Rob had to go scan Kelly's heart (don't ask but she's healthy) so Ian came to play for a couple of hours. Listening to the conversations between a 3.5 year old boy and a 3.5 year old girl is hilarious.
Ian: "Let's play with my Star Wars toys."
Havi: "That's boy stuff, I want to play with my Disney Princess dolls."
Ian: "I'm going to play with my Star Wars toys."
Havi: "OK."
A trip to the loo also entertained me with a brilliant conversation.
Havi:Pointing at Ian's 'manhood' "Mummy, what's that?"
Me:Not very quick on the response "Erm"
Ian: "That's my penis."
Havi: "Oh, only boys have penises, right?"
Me: "Right."
Ian: "My Daddy has a big penis."
Me:Running from the room before they see me laughing...
It was fun to tell Kelly and Rob that little tale when they got back.
The rest of the weekend was just as much fun and Monday morning started off looking like this...
What was Mummy all anxious about? Havi had a great first swim lesson on her own in the pool (no Mum or Dad).
When we arrived Havi got a wrist band to show that it was her first class and we skipped off to get ready. We were a little early so we watched the class before us and got all excited about her class. I took her over once her class was ready to start, and immediately she got in the pool and 'swam' away with her instructor Miss Chrissy.
She is in the Nitro 1 class that has ten stations... once certain things are accomplished the kids move up to the next station.
Havi passed station 1 at her first class by learning to put her face into the water for 5 seconds! Way to go Havi!
She was with her instructor and two other little girls. Every once in a while Miss Chrissy would have them all hang onto her arms and she'd take them for a ride around the pool. The grins were huge!
Our only tears were at the end... she didn't want to leave!
By the time she's at station 10 she'll be able to swim 20 yards freestyle and 20 yards backstroke as well as some survival skills. Can't wait to see that :-)
