Fall Festival and a Birthday Party

Havi's school had it's Fall Festival this past weekend. A HUGE event that makes up for most of the fundraising for the school each year - since becoming a parent of and elementary school child, I've found that every school seems to have a Fall Festival each year.

I'm not convinced Havi really knew what to expect so she was a chatterbox the whole 0.8 mile walk to school. Non-stop.

Half way there we saw the signs and that made the anticipation even greater!

The bounce houses, games, barrel train ride and art projects were a hit. The sweets as prizes at each game (no winning required) were an even bigger hit.

On the way home we found the longest ever ant trail and stopped to investigate for a while. Did you know ants never sleep? Havi did... thanks to Wild Kratts :-)

The next day Havi went to her friend Jadyn's birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese. This time neither Havi or myself knew what to expect. Havi has heard the Chuck E. Cheese ads on PBSKids but we've never been because it's not really our thing... I'm pretty sure her eyes popped out her head when we walked in the door.

For those not in the know, Chuck E. Cheese is a 'restaurant'/amusement arcade catering towards kids. They serve pizza and you can buy coins for the games, that then spit out tickets.... the tickets are collected then spent on prizes. It's an odd place for a birthday party as the guest inevitably end up in totally different places and only see each other when it's time to eat and cut the cake.

Havi had fun playing the games and pocketed 73 tickets... which were exchanged for a plastic stingray to scare Daddy with, a dollar sign ring and a squishy fish!

Most importantly the birthday girl had fun and I realized that the count down to six years old is on for Havi!

Fall Cook-Out

We weren't sure what to expect, but we were invited to join the Kindergartners for their fall cookout a couple of weeks ago.

It was crazy madness but a lot of fun. We all got our lunches, either brought in (Havi had her usual packed lunch and Peter and I had Subway) or from the cafeteria and took them outside to picnic in the mild weather.

We sat with her classmates and their families and had a lovely time. After we'd eaten they went off for recess and we followed along to see what they get up to.

The usual games, chase, tag etc... and then some game that seemed to have a lot of rules and included stacking rocks... ??

Fun times.

Havi-ism's......

Photobucket
Tiny Grape!

Havi was in a grumpy mood and I told her she was tired and we should make sure she gets to bed on time to which she replied, "Mum, I think I should start going to be at 7.30pm instead of 8pm so I can get enough sleep and get enough energy, I think that would be a good idea."

Seriously... what child requests and earlier bed time?

After asking me why I don't cook much and me explaining that I don't really like to, I'm not very good at it and Daddy loves to; "Well Mum, you're really good at it when you do cook, and when you cook it's good for the whole family. You only sometimes leave it cooking too long or not long enough."

Lots of kids and a farm!

I was lucky enough to be able to volunteer to help with the school field trip to Crowes Nest Farm. With close to 140 Kindergartners, help was much needed but a fun time was had by all :-)

The kids had so much fun, first riding on the school bus (for those that don't catch the bus to school) then seeing all the animals at the farm.

They learned about how cows are milked, went on a hay ride and saw buffalo and ostriches on the way. Saw every kind of farm animal possible, as well as many other animals. Went on an adventure in the butterfly house and a forest full of fairies... ate a picnic lunch in the pavilion and gave their scraps to the pigs.

Knight of the Week

Havi was Knight of the Week the week of October 10th - this basically means it's her week to be the special one in her classroom. Each kid has a week over the school year.

They get to take home Buzzy, the class mascot for the week. They fill the estimation jar for the class to guess the amount of objects inside. They bring delicious snacks each day, a mystery item for the class to guess and their favourite book for the teacher to read.

Buzzy fit in well amongst all the other stuffed toys at home... and Moo liked him too.

Havi took tiny erasers to fill the estimation jar and the book she loves to share with everyone - Martina the Beautiful Cockroach

It just happened to be the week of the school field trip too.... making it extra special :-)
